“My response to the constant occurring thoughts, images and memories of my roots.
I think of where I am from and who I am from.
Memories of my father’s ceramics, made from terracotta and stoneware clay. I remember watching him glaze the most accurate lines with a tiny brush in his sturdy hand.
Images from vast stretches of arid land where canyons split the earth and mountain peaks rise in the distance. A place that I know well, yet will always be discovering.
Thoughts reverse. I go back in my artmaking, to move forward. I deconstruct and reconstruct the elements of my colourscapes - focusing on forms and single shapes, adding geometric design, and merging angles with organic pattern.
As I transition in life and art practice, my roots remain my constant. I have gone, and will go back again.”
